Setting up a first session @ CAPS: We recommend using the the Center for Student Wellness Online Wellness Link (OWL) that is your portal for all of CSW services and information, designed for your convenience and privacy. Navigate to tcnj.medicatconnect.com and log in using your TCNJ user ID and password. Once logged in, click on ‘Forms and Resources‘ and use the CAPS Request for Services (RFS) form to provide the needed information. Please note that completing a RFS will take approximately 15-20 minutes of your time. This gives us valuable information that helps us make the best, most effective use of our brief model and assists you in reaching your goals in a more timely fashion. Once it is complete (be sure you answered all the questions you intend), click ‘Submit’ and you’re done! (please do not hit submit more than once) Our response to set up your first appointment will be through your TCNJ email address, so look for it there. Note: If you are a returning group counseling member who has previously completed the RFS, you need only to fill out the abbreviated CAPS Request for Group Counseling found in the Forms and Resources area of our Online Wellness Link (OWL).
Important: Here are some tips to help avoid any frustration using CAPS’ online service: 1) Be sure to allot sufficient time (15-20 min.) to complete the RFS in one session; the online service does not permit leaving the form and returning. If you hit ‘submit’ prior to fully completing the form, information may be lost. 2) You have a maximum of an hour to complete an RFS; after that time there is an automatic reset. This is plenty of time to complete the form, so to avoid problems, get it all filled out in one ‘sit. 3) The online service does not fully, reliably support mobile devices (i.e. smart phones), so a ‘regular’ computer is best. 4) If you encounter any bugs using a laptop and WiFi, switching to a desktop/wired combination will help resolve issues. Thanks for your patience – we are doing our best to work out remaining ‘bugs’ with our online service.
What to expect in a first appointment: The CAPS team will have reviewed your request thoroughly, and assigned a first appointment based on the information you have provided. Depending on the nature of your request, the appointment may be a half hour or an hour; the goal is to identify the best option for you. CAPS staff are impressed with the value of group counseling; as a matter of course you may be encouraged to exercise that option for what brings you to CAPS. At its core, the process is about matching you with what will best meet your needs.
